World Internet and Telecommunications Day is celebrated on May 17. More than 300 students from Isla Venado already have access to the internet

Saint Joseph. Telecable enabled Internet connections for more than 300 students from the educational centers of Venado Island, who for the first time have broadband Internet access in their educational centers.

With this action, Telecable concludes the delivery of connected educational centers of the FONATEL educational connectivity program, which has the objective of reducing the digital divide in public schools and colleges in the country, facilitating access to a high-speed broadband network.

“We are the democratizer of Internet access in Costa Rica, we have connected more than 45 thousand students throughout the country to the network, fully meeting the objectives of the National Telecommunications Fund program. At Telecable we seek to reduce the digital divide because we believe that access to stable and quality connectivity is a right of all people,” said Rodolfo Apéstegui, general director of Telecable.

Both the Venado Island school and the college were connected to Telecable's broadband network that will allow students to access the internet at speeds greater than 100 megabytes.

“Internet access is of great importance for the institution, since it will help our young people to obtain a quality education and our teachers to be able to use technology more. I am convinced that connectivity will improve the quality of life of the island's inhabitants,” emphasized Alexander Sánchez, director of the Rural School of Isla Venado.

Telecable has already connected to the Internet more than 179 educational centers in nearly 30 hard-to-reach cantons in the country, impacting more than 45 thousand students throughout the country. Telecable is the company with the largest fiber optic deployment in Costa Rica.

Recently, Telecable also connected Chira Island to the Internet. The connection was possible thanks to the fiber optic installation deployed by the company. With these actions, Telecable has already provided access to connections to more than 45 thousand students from 179 educational centers in nearly 30 hard-to-reach cantons in the country.

FONATEL's educational connectivity program has the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT), Ministry of Public Education (MEP) and the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SUTEL).
